Association of School Psychologists of Pennsylvania
Annual Fall Conference 2024: Claim Your Space
A message from President Shradha Gera:
This year’s Association of School Psychologists of Pennsylvania theme is Claim Your Space. This message holds the intention of creating room for school psychologists to make themselves not only visible, but to make their presence unmissable, make their voices loud, and unapologetically claim space, particularly in unwelcoming and uninviting environments, to be their authentic selves. In doing so, school psychologists can be their best selves in using their experience and expertise to support students.
We hope that you feel empowered to "Claim Your Space" at our conference this year, and join us as we come together to celebrate each other's ongoing research and work in schools, network with professionals and students from across the state, and grow together as school psychologists in Pennsylvania.
We hope to see you there!
Shradha Gera
2024-2025 ASPP President
Keynote Speaker: Dr. Janise Parker
Dr. Janise Parker is an Associate Professor in the School Psychology program at William & Mary. Her research focuses on (a) culturally responsive mental and behavioral health services, (b) sociocultural factors and positive Black youth development, and (c) religious and spiritual diversity among marginalized youth. As a licensed psychologist and nationally certified school psychologist, Dr. Parker takes a healing approach in all she does to inform services that help communities thrive and grow. Dr. Parker has developed equity-centered programing alongside community members, colleagues, and William & Mary students to address pressing issues in the 21st century. These programs include: (1) Success of Students (SOS) , a virtual K-12 mentoring program in partnership with predominantly Black faith communities; (2) Resistance in Sisterly Elevation (R.I.S.E.), a structured modular-based program to support Women of Color in school-mental health fields and other helping professions; and (3) Project H.E.A.L.: History Evoking Action and Liberation, an online healing-centered micro-course in partnership with Colonial Williamsburg and the Bray School Lab at William & Mary.
Dr. Parker will be speaking on Tuesday, November 12th.
