Milton Hershey School is a fee-free, year-round home and school that provides a positive, structured home life and an outstanding pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade education to boys and girls in social and financial need. The School was founded in 1909 by Milton S. Hershey, founder of the Hershey Chocolate Company, and his wife Catherine. Thanks to their generosity and foresight, Milton Hershey School thrives today and is expanding.
Working closely with the Coordinator of Admissions Assessment, the School Psychologist (SP) is responsible for making decisions on students' appropriateness for enrollment to Milton Hershey School, as well as additional recommendations regarding learning and emotional needs. The SP conducts psychological record reviews and assessments for prospective students. Assessments include cognitive ability, achievement, structured observation, personality assessments, measurements of psycho-social strengths and weaknesses, and ability to adjust to student life.
- Master's degree and certification as a PA School Psychologist are required. Clinical experience as a psychologist preferred. Experience working with children from poverty is a plus.
- Knowledge of and successful experience with the administration/interpretation of psychological/diagnostic tests (Wechsler, Stanford-Binet) and standardized or curriculum-based assessments (i.e., reading, writing, math assessments)
- Training in psychological diagnostic testing, professional ethics, clinical procedures
- Intelligence, behavioral and personality assessment of children ages 4-16
- Knowledge of mental health and educational systems, DSM-IV diagnostic criteria
- Standardized, observational & projective measures of behavioral & personality functions
