School Psychologists' Gifted Assessment Practices with Culturally Diverse Students

My name is Nanda Mitra-Itle. I am a full-time school psychologist and doctorate student in PA who is working on my dissertation. I am conducting an anonymous survey of the gifted identification assessments used with diverse students by School Psychologists. I would very much appreciate if you could forward this email to school psychologists in your area or if you are one, complete it. If you wish to obtain the results of the study, I can send you the information once I have completed my chapters.

Professional Roles and Practices of Urban School Psychologists

Your participation is sought for a study entitled, Professional Roles and Practices of Urban School Psychologists which can be found at the following link:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/urbanpsych

The purpose of this study is to ascertain a better understanding of the roles and daily responsibilities of school psychology practitioners who serve urban schools. Historically, urban schooling has been characterized by ethnically diverse populations, high population density, and economic disadvantages. These issues impact the schooling process and child development, creating potentially complex conditions under which educators, including school psychologists, who serve urban schools practice. Yet, studies on the experiences of school psychology practitioners who serve urban schools have been limited. As such this study seeks to understand: (a) Urban school psychologists’ roles and daily employment experiences and (b) Urban school psychologists’ views regarding graduate preparation, professional organizations, and issues associated with urban school psychological practice.

You qualify to participate in this survey if you are a school psychologist who services schools in or near the city of Philadelphia. This survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. While there is no compensation for this study, you may contact the primary investigator and receive a copy of the results. If you have any questions concerning any part of the survey you can contact the principal investigator at (412) 396-4477 or gravess@duq.edu . Thank you for your participation.

Sincerely,

Current assessment and intervention practices for students with Autusm Spectrum Disorders

Dear School Psychologist,

We are asking school-based practitioners to complete a brief, online survey designed to examine the current assessment and intervention practices that you use or recommend for students with ASD.

Please go to https://kent.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_6LkNJD5yTrlnCCw to complete this brief, online survey, or to finish where you left off. Experience has shown that unless surveys are completed within a few days, they are likely not completed at all. Therefore, we encourage you to complete the survey as soon as possible.

The survey consists of 15 questions and will take approximately 8 minutes to complete. Your answers to this survey are anonymous and will be kept confidential. All data will be collected and secured on a HIPPA-compliant, secure database.

Thank you,

Assistant Professor, School Psychology

Challenges of School-Based Practice Encountered by School Psychologists

The purpose of the current qualitative study is to understand on a national level the ethical challenges school psychologists face today. The purpose of this study is twofold. First, we seek to understand these issues in order to better prepare preservice school psychology students for situations they might encounter while in the field. Second, we want to report on the efficacy and relevance of the recently published policy document by the National Association of School Psychologists, Principles for Professional Ethics 2010.

For this study, all state school psychology associations will be contacted and invited to allow their membership to participate in the study. Contacts for each state association were obtained by a web search of each state association’s website. An email was initially sent (October 2, 2011) inviting the contacts to forward the invitation and link to their membership.

The study consists of an online questionnaire where participants will be asked to describe ethical dilemmas, ethical transgressions or legal quandaries they have observed in their practice as school psychologists. We ask seven demographic questions and five open-ended questions (Please see below for the actual questions that appear in the online questionnaire). We anticipate that the survey will take 5-10 or more minutes to complete (depending on the level of detail participants choose to provide on the open-ended items). On the last item, participants are asked to enter their email address if they wish to be entered in a drawing to win one of two $50 gift certificates to Amazon.com. You can access the survey through the following link:

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the primary investigator, Dr. Rebecca S. Martinez by phone (812.856.8324) or email rsm@indiana.edu

Thank you for your time and consideration of this research request.
